Visit From Congressman Mark Pocan

On Wednesday April 6, Congressman Mark Pocan came to talk with VeronaAid to hear our message and discuss our goals. He answered questions on the implications surrounding the Syrian civil war, the refugee crisis, and poverty in Dane County as well as suggestions on how to spread our message.

We are appreciative that he was able to take the time out of his busy schedule to talk to our organization and we are excited to see what congress will do to address the problems revolving around poverty in Dane County and the refugee crisis.Group Photo w Mark Pocan.JPG

Representative Dianne Hesselbein’s visit

State Representative Dianne Hesselbein stopped by VAHS on March 9 and spoke with the students of VeronaAid. She shared the nature of her work and her admiration for the work that VeronaAid has been doing. Her message to all the students was that everyone can make a difference and that voting and running for office are some of the best ways to play an active part in our democracy. Her focus involves strengthening education for all and making the system more equitable.

Students asked her how VeronaAid can continue to grow. Some students shared how they hope their involvement with VeronaAid will contribute to their future goals of contributing to society, such as working for UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders, the Coast Guard, in nursing, and as an elected official.

We shared what we have done and what we plan to achieve. Rep. Hesselbein is very impressed with what has been done so far and the plans for growth. She said that she would help spread the message.
